Mosqoy
Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles is a community-based fair-trade and non-profit textile revitalization project that supports indigenous women's Quechua weaving cooperatives in the Andean mountains of Peru. We sell hand-made, traditional, naturally-sourced and hand-woven textiles made by indigenous women weavers in some of the most remote communities of the Cusco region. These products are made using traditional indigenous weaving techniques, which have been practiced for centuries. The beautiful patterns and symbols woven into these textiles represent important aspects of everyday existence in the Andes. By purchasing Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles, you are contributing to the preservation of the deep cultural knowledge required to carry out the weaving process, from shearing livestock and dyeing the wool using plants and other natural dyes, to the construction of the back-strap loom, to weaving the finished textile.Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles are fairly traded, providing a source of income for women in marginalized communities. Mosqoy operates its community development program using revenues from sales of Mosqoy Peruvian Textiles, facilitating capacity-building workshops and projects to foster sustainability and meet the needs of weaving cooperatives. Additionally, a portion of all sales contribute to Mosqoy’s Youth Program, providing scholarships for promising youth from this region to pursue higher education. To learn more about the entire organization, as well as our textile program and social enterprise, please visit our website at www.mosqoy.org.
