Yulia Terekh
Vancouver Samba School (VSS) is founded by Yulia Terekh, a true passionate dancer and performer of Latin and Afro-Brazilian cultural dances, and a dedicated capoeira martial artist. It’s through Axé Capoeira she fell in love with Brazilian Samba in 2011. Since then, Yulia has performed in various Latin and Afro-Brazilian shows in Canada and internationally, she attended workshops and classes of the world renowned dancers and professionals from Brazil, Europe, Latin and North America, Russia & performed in various venues as well as paraded multiple times in Afro-Brazilian Carnivals in Vancouver. Yulia continues to expand her knowledge and skills in dance and cultural aspects of samba in order to pass it down to her students and all interested. VSS is founded to further promote Brazilian culture and the beauty of Brazilian samba dance in Vancouver. VSS offers beginner and intermediate lessons for public, as well as grants performance and international trips opportunities to Samba Congresses and Samba Carnival in Rio de Janeiro for all students.

Have you heard of Brazilian Samba or took a beginner classes with us? Samba has so many “faces” and styles, and each of them is deeply rooted in Afro-Brazilian culture. And in Vancouver Samba School. we want to explore all of it.
Therefore, this May, we decided to present a new challenge & introduce you to Samba Reggae. Samba Reggae music is a fun combination of Jamaican Reggae & Brazilian Samba. Great vibes, groovy moves & beats, carnival and community spirit, music that will make you smile & dance. We will learn samba basics & understand the differences in samba no pé and samba reggae footwork, in 6 weeks we will also complete a full choreo to showcase later. As part of the course, we will talk about the history of the dance and its significance in Afro-Brazilian culture. As a culmination of the course, a performance opportunity will be granted as well as a professional video shoot where our Samba Reggae team will shine.

In April, we introduced a new private class that had so much positive feedback and demand. This is a customized class that Yulia has been offering privately since November 2020. In May we will continue to dance with existing private students and will open 5 more spots for new clients.
